Opera makes more than music

Last week at Lifeline we were delighted to welcome Denise Coughlan from Pleasure Garden Productions, who came to give us a very generous donation and find out more about our work.

Denise was inspired to support Genesis Trust after hearing about the Walcot Street Next Step Appeal; “I was struck by how this new project could have the potential to reach out and impact the individual person, and help them to be the best version of themselves”.

The money was raised at a performance of Verdi’s “Rigoletto” organised by Pleasure Garden Productions on a particularly hot Sunday in June at Widcombe Manor. “Blessed by glorious weather and good company, it was a day to remember” said Marian, a Lifeskills volunteer who attended that day.

Bath Opera’s singers serenaded the audience with beautiful music and all proceeds from the performance were donated to Genesis Trust. Staff held a reception with donors and volunteers, and organised a Lifeskills stall of Lino prints, along with an anthology of creative writing.

A big thank you to both Denise and Chris Rogers (also from Pleasure Garden Productions) who chose to support us- their kind donation will enable us to continue helping those in need in the Bath community and fund our Genesis Centre on Walcot Street, which will provide homeless people with the resources and training to move toward self-sufficiency and regular employment.
