Walcot Street Appeal

What is the Walcot Street Appeal?

The Walcot Street appeal has been set up to fund an ambitious new building project for Genesis Trust in central Bath.

The Genesis Centre  will provide a permanent home  for our charity. The centre will include a new training facility and attractive retail shop, where some of the most marginalised in our community will be helped to access a wide range of educational courses and get opportunities for work experience.  It will also provide staff with a much needed base in the same location.

As of February 2017 we are well over three quarters of  the way to our £1.1 million target having had a huge boost of a £100,000 grant from the Garfield Weston Foundation last year . Read more here

Appeal Director Dr. Alan Kerbey has recently written a Bath Magazine guest column reflecting on Genesis’s contribution to Bath and our plans for the future.

Fund raising – How will the money be raised?

Genesis is an independent charity and receives no statutory funding, which means it is wholly reliant on its volunteers and charitable donations to undertake its work.

The Walcot Street Appeal represents Genesis’ biggest challenge to date. The current building is in very poor condition and needs significant upgrading before it can be used. We need to raise over £1 million to do the work. We are raising this through the support of individual donors, grant-making trusts and foundations, companies; plus local churches and the community.

How can you help us achieve our fundraising target?

We hope to raise approximately £800,000 through donations from individuals. For some, this could well be a five – or even a six-figure sum; for others, it might be a much smaller donation. But we would like to encourage as many people as possible to get behind this exciting and important project and to make a gift at a level they can afford. Whether small or large, each donation will be valued equally and will help to take us towards our target figure. All gifts will be acknowledged personally.

You can help by working in partnership with us if you’re a local company

As a Bath-based charity, we are interested in developing mutually beneficial partnerships with local companies. You might consider adopting the Genesis Trust as your charity of the year and encourage your staff to fundraise for us. We are delighted that Sharp Family Law, the Abbey Hotel , Francis Hotel & Bath City FC have chosen to support us in this way in 2016 already.

To find out more about working in partnership with us, contact our Head of Fundraising, michelle@genesistrust.org.uk or call on 07889 167984.

You can help us if you are a local church: The Genesis Wall of Hope

wal of hope jpegThis Autumn,  we will be launching an exciting new appeal to the churches in Bath: The Genesis Wall of Hope. We will provide an innovative display unit, covered with ‘bricks’ of various values (pre-printed envelopes) that individuals can take away, fill, and return to the collecting box provided.

We hope this offers an easy and fun way for every member of church congregations to get involved and support the project – whatever their means. Genesis staff and volunteers are keen to present the concept to local churches – to arrange this please contact Sarah sarah@genesistrust.org.uk or call her on 01225 463549.
