Volunteering

Volunteering is a great way to make a significant difference in your local community, meet new people and learn new skills. Our ten interlinking projects depend on our wonderful team of over 700 volunteers to deliver our mission to support homeless, disadvantaged and vulnerable people in Bath.

Have a read through our Volunteer Testimonials and once you’re ready to volunteer, take a look at our Induction Page.

Volunteering with our Projects

Lifeline is a drop-in centre open Monday – Friday (10am-12pm) offering a hot breakfast, clothing, shower and wash facilities, as well as one-to-one support. Volunteers can greet and welcome visitors, hand out food and drinks and help with the clothing store. Please contact our Lifeline Centre Manager for more information.

Life Skills offers a range of practical and creative classes for vulnerable and disadvantaged adults on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays. Volunteers can assist with classes and, where they have certain skills to offer, run a workshop. For available opportunities please email here.

Furniture Project collects and redistributes furniture and household items to individuals and families on a low income. It is open Monday – Friday from 9-4.30pm. A general volunteer role description is here. For available opportunities please email here.

Lunch Box serves food on Monday and Wednesday lunchtimes. Volunteers help to welcome visitors and assist with the service of food and with cleaning-up. Lunch Box does not require further volunteers at the moment.

Family Matters works with local families that have multiple and complex needs to help them to make positive changes to their family life. They work in partnership with the B&NES Connecting Families team from where most of our families are referred. Volunteers are asked to make a weekly visit of up to 2 hours to support family members. For volunteering opportunities please email here.

Home for Good encourages fostering and adopting within the local community. If you would like to know more, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter. For volunteering opportunities please email here.

Bath Foodbank distributes food parcels to people in a crisis. There are various volunteering opportunities in the distribution centres,  with supermarket collections and in the warehouse. For more information and for available opportunities please email here.

Volunteering through the Church

Genesis Trust assists the organisation of the Soup Run, Sunday Centre and Bath Street Pastors.

Soup Run runs every night of the year in the Cattle Market car park between 7-8pm. It is organised via various Churches in Bath. There are currently no volunteer vacancies with the Soup Run. However, if you are a member of a Church who has a Soup Run team, please enquire with them about future opportunities.

Bath Street Pastors are volunteers from local churches who patrol the streets of Bath on Friday and Saturday nights. They work alongside other agencies such as the local police, street marshals and fast response ambulance crews, responding to the needs of individuals, providing both a listening ear and practical support. For information on volunteering with them please email here.

Volunteering with our Fundraising Team

We are always on the look out for people who can give their time to help us raise funds for our work. From bake sales, marathons and sleep-outs, to stewarding at Genesis-led events, there is lots to get involved with.  Please email our Community and Events Manager to find out more.
