Sunday Centre coordinator Giles Peters , who has been volunteering for Genesis for 15 years, won the Volunteer Leader of the Year at the B&NES Chairman’s awards ceremony this week. Sunday Centre is one of the charity’s longest standing projects and Giles co ordinates over 100 volunteers who provide Sunday lunch in a homely setting to Bath’s most disadvantaged people. Based at Nexus Church on Walcot Street , 8 teams from 15 local churches work on a rota basis providing a hot nourishing meal to homeless and vulnerable people, frequently serving over 30 meals in a day. The volunteers range in age from teenagers to people in their eighties
Genesis Founder Sir Peter Heywood said ” Giles inspires everyone involved, and is amazingly generous with his time and with his enthusiasm. He is wonderful at getting to know our clients and helping them, and has that excellent balance between being patient and being firm.” Congratulations to Giles on his award!
Our Street Pastor team were one of 21 local volunteer groups nominated for the Team of the Year – they didn’t win on this occasion but enjoyed the evening’s celebration. And thanks to one of our Life Skills clients Kim for nominating the entire Genesis team for the team of the year award too!
With over 108 individuals and groups nominated for awards the event showed the strength of volunteering in the B&NES area.
