What a day at the London Marathon 2025! It was sunny weather, maybe too warm for the runners but great for the spectators and the thousands of people cheering along the iconic 26.2-mile route. This year the TCS London Marathon was a record-breaking event as it broke the Guiness World Record for the most finishers in a marathon – 56,640 participants crossed the world-famous finish line on The Mall.

We are so grateful for the runners who took on this extreme challenge for Genesis Trust. We had seven people who ran in London – Claire Thomas, Guy Thompson, Sam Eaton, James Halliwell, Neil Mandell, Peter Chia and Krittaphol Wongsakul.  Peter and Krittaphol both work for Rotork and came all the way from Singapore and Thailand respectively to take part in their first London Marathon and to support Genesis Trust.

Three people also ran and walked the equally challenging London Marathon MyWay – Scott Burnett, Matt Beaman and Jess Blackford.

Congratulations to them all!  We are so grateful for their months of training over the last year and their great efforts on the day. Everyone achieved great times, despite the heat, and enjoyed the experience.

‘An unforgettable day!’

‘I absolutely loved it (mile 14 -23 excluded 😊) and have definitely got the marathon bug. Thanks again for this amazing opportunity!’

‘Thanks again for allowing me to run for Genesis Trust for the London Marathon. I’m really pleased my fundraising is going to a great cause!’

Another world record set by the 2025 TCS London Marathon was for the biggest annual one-day fundraising event with more than £75 million raised so far by all the runners running for all the charities. At the time of writing our fundraising total is £13215.16 and donations will still be coming in from family and friends impressed by this inspirational achievement. It is not only the running that takes people out of their comfort zone but reaching the fundraising target can be a challenging task and we are very grateful for their persistence and results here as well.  You can see all our runners HERE.

I was in London for the Marathon to cheer on our runners, and it was such a memorable day. Loud, busy and very exciting! The last time I went to watch was in 2002. I lived in Woolwich and just walked down the road to cheer everyone run by, and I walked home again!  This year I appreciated the huge scale of the event and what it also means for our runners, getting to London and back, the planning needed for supporting family and friends to get to good viewing spots and to manage the crowds and transport. I have great admiration for the logistics and planning by the London Marathon Events team to put on such an impressive event. As Genesis Trust is a Golden Bond charity, I was able to be in the charity grandstand along the side of The Mall in the final hundred metres or so which was a great spot to be part of the runners’ journey to the finish line.

Meanwhile in Essex, Monmouthshire and Somerset the London Marathon MyWay participants, Matt, Scott, and Jess were tackling their 26.2-mile routes which had to be completed on the Marathon day between 00:00 to 23:59 hours. Scott’s walk, for example, took him from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead following the route of the West Somerset Railway and ending at St Michael’s Church where he was married almost 16 years ago. What a lovely day for a very long walk!

Thank you to all who have supported our runners this year. I have enjoyed the journey with them over the year culminating in a truly memorable Marathon Day for all.
