Hilary Long has been working for Genesis Trust for eight years as part of the fundraising team and we are sad to be saying goodbye. She has been a dedicated and faithful member of the Genesis team and will be greatly missed by staff, volunteers and clients alike.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Hilary for all she’s done to support homeless and vulnerable people in our community and to look back over her time with us.

Hilary first came to Genesis as a ‘Channeling Passions’ volunteer in 2016. She gave up to 20 hours a week improving the volunteer’s experience and finding new opportunities for Genesis. This volunteering role came at a time when Hilary was looking to get back into work after a pause looking after her children.

In 2017, her volunteering opportunity became a paid role with Genesis as ‘Community and Events Fundraiser’. This came off the back of successful Genesis fundraising events such as Souper November and the 21st Anniversary celebrations. Hilary launched into supporting London Marathon and Bath Half runners, making time to help them make the most of each event.

Hilary also involved herself in all things community focused, all with the intention of spreading the news of Genesis and what it was doing for vulnerable people across the city. Highlights were the Bath Marches, Bath Boules and involving the Life Skills clients in creating a mosaic owl called Kintsugi for the city-wide trail.

Hilary grew Genesis’ profile in churches, schools and universities, making links with everyone in the community. She organised abseils including our much-loved Leap of Faith! from Bath Abbey, prayer walks, work placements and cake sales, student activities and market stalls. She responded to every call which would advocate Genesis and help others understand the work we provide across the community.

Hilary said, ‘I enjoy meeting people and supporting them to help Genesis. I loved getting an email saying, ‘we want to do such-and-such fundraiser for Genesis, can you help?’ I enjoyed the markets and events where I could tell people about how they were helping. But I also got to share the need, who and why we are helping.’

Hilary also loved working with our clients on creative projects, introducing the link with organisations such as ‘All Cycle Bath and West’ and having clients volunteer on stalls like the Christmas market.

Hilary has always gone above and beyond to support Genesis and we are so sad to see her leaving us. She is currently looking for new opportunities to use her skills and is looking forward to seeing what doors God opens for her next.

We want to thank Hilary for all she has done to support us as staff, volunteers, fundraisers and clients. We are so very grateful for all your hard work, passion and commitment to the work of Genesis Trust.
