What is your role at Bath Foodbank?

‘I am on a fortnightly rota helping with the Foodbank distribution centre at St Philips and St James’ Church in Odd Down. Whilst chatting to the clients and noting down their requirements, we are able to suggest other places where they can get further support.’

When did you begin your role?

‘I’ve been a volunteer at the Foodbank since it was set up at Odd Down in September 2022’

Where did you hear about this volunteering opportunity and why did you want to become a volunteer?

‘I saw a request in our church newsletter asking for volunteers for the new foodbank centre. I have always tried to be involved in voluntary work alongside paid work and this fits in well around my other commitments. I really enjoy meeting new people and serving in this way with a small group has been very rewarding. It can be upsetting to see people really struggling to get by and I am hugely grateful to Genesis Trust for providing these services to help others.’

What is your favourite part of your role?

‘The best part of the job is knowing that in a small way you are helping a family in a time of crisis. It’s good to be able to offer a friendly conversation for the short time the clients are with us, with the knowledge that they can go home and not be worried about food for the following few days before they can find ongoing support. I feel very lucky to be part of this work with Bath Foodbank and would encourage anyone thinking about it to get involved.’
