Thank you from the Foodbank

A massive thank you from Bath, Keynsham & Somer Valley Foodbank to all the schools, churches, businesses and individuals who donated food during the Harvest collection season.

The donations this year exceeded our expectation, and we received approximately 7,500kg of food! To put that in perspective, it’s the same approximate weight of a fully loaded lorry like the one pictured here.

We are so grateful to everyone across the community who have come together over harvest to support the Foodbank. This food will restock our warehouses, ready for the winter ahead. Thank you so much.

The need

Since merging the three foodbanks in June this year, together we have supported over 4130 people with food (including 1300 children), a number we anticipate will increase during the winter months. The foodbank offers support across Bath, Keynsham and the Somer Valley areas, and we are seeing approximately 104 new households accessing the Foodbank each month for the first time.

A big thank you to all our volunteers who make the Foodbank happen. We couldn’t provide food parcels without your hard work with deliveries, in the warehouse and at our centres. Thank you!

Community Donations this Christmas

The Foodbank is now shifting into Christmas mode. Could you please support us with food donations in the build-up to Christmas? The donations that come in each winter are necessary towards ensuring we can meet the need through the colder months and throughout the year. Thanks to donations from the community, we also provide festive treats for struggling families and individuals at Christmas. All Christmas food donations must be at our warehouse by Friday 12 December. This is so we can sort it and get it distributed to all in need before Christmas.

Could your business, church or school arrange a Christmas food collection? Or you could do a food drive with your neighbours, sports or hobby group?

Below are links to our Christmas most needed lists. We offer a more colourful A4 poster and a black and white A4 poster for everyone’s printing needs. We have also included a smaller image that you can download onto your phone to use on WhatsApp, Messenger or other communication apps.  Or click here to go to our Christmas page

Please contact us at info@bksv.foodbank.org.uk to arrange an appointment to deliver the donations to our warehouse. If it’s a very large collection, we can arrange for our volunteer van crews to collect the food.

Midsomer Norton and Keynsham Tesco Food Drives

Bath, Keynsham and Somer Valley Foodbank is a Trussell Foodbank. We are delighted that Trussell arranges national food drives with Tesco Supermarkets. Our next one is planned for 27th, 28th and 29th November in Midsomer Norton and Keynsham. This food drive will involve a full-day food collection at the Tesco stores in both locations for all three days. We, along with a team of volunteers, will distribute food lists to customers with an ask to support us if they can by buying some extra items when shopping.

Why don’t you visit us at the Tesco in Midsomer Norton or Keynsham and support the food drive. The food collected is vital to our stock levels through the winter months when demand is much higher.

Thank you for all your support you give Bath, Keynsham and Somer Valley Foodbank. We are so appreciative of your support for those in our community facing crisis this winter.
