As the summer holidays get into full swing we wanted to share the amazing plans the Bath Foodbank is rolling out to support families over the long six weeks.
Before term finished, Bath Foodbank passed on information leaflets for schools to pop in book-bags or to include in newsletters, giving contact details for different services available in the Bath area should families need food support. If families are facing crisis in the middle of the holidays, it’s often difficult to know where to go for help. The Foodbank information leaflet has already started connecting the dots for some families across Bath, enabling them to contact the right services in their time of need.
For some families on low incomes six weeks can feel like a long time. Many children receive free school meals in term time, but when the holidays arrive, families need to find that extra lunchtime meal each day; a challenge for those already struggling. Bath Foodbank connected with Bath schools to see where they could help, and from this are supporting 3 schools with food to help approximately 50 families over the holidays.
Providing food is not the only challenge facing families over the holidays. Trying to entertain children for six weeks is no mean feat. Many families relying on food provisions from the Foodbank cannot afford to take their children out for a day or treat them to something special.
That’s where Bath Foodbank’s new partnership with Taste of Bath comes in. Throughout July, Taste of Bath has donated a Swoon ice cream voucher to Foodbank families for every £25 hamper they’ve sold. Thanks to Taste of Bath customers (and Swoon for their donation), the Bath Foodbank now has 124 ice cream vouchers to give out to families over the summer holidays.
To add to this tasty treat, Foodbank has funding to provide a cinema voucher to accompany the ice cream outing. Going to the cinema, which can be unaffordable to many families, will be a very special treat for the children. Imagine the children’s delight when they not only get to go out for an ice cream, but can partner that with a cinema experience! This is a day out which all the family can enjoy; one which will brighten their summer, create some fun and make memories to share together.
Bath Foodbank is empowering families to make their summer a tasty adventure to remember.
