Food for the homeless - Connecting in conversation
Connecting in conversation – Eating together
Life Connect is our food provision for homeless people. But it’s more than that. There is something therapeutic in setting aside time and sitting next to someone for a meal; an excuse to chat and reflect on the day. It requires so little of us and yet for some that 30-45 minutes may be their only conversation that the day brings in an otherwise lonely or chaotic day.
We believe that the dinner table is a place for community and inclusivity, which is why we are offering these meals in a safe, warm, friendly and welcoming environment for anyone who needs company whilst they eat.
We provide food for homeless and vulnerable people, but these meals are more than that. They help overcome the impact of isolation and help us connect with people so that we can provide further support.
This is the basis for the two meals we’ve built into the Genesis Trust week:
- Wednesday cooked breakfast at the Gateway Centre (9:30-11:30am)
- Thursday lunch at St John’s the Evangelist Church on South Parade Road (12:00-1:30)
“Research has revealed that the more often people eat with others the more likely they are to feel happy and satisfied with their lives.”
