Back in the winter months we asked you all to support our Christmas Appeal in aid of Genesis Life Projects. So many of you generously responded and, five months on, we’d like to share how your gifts have already provided life changing results for the guests who have attended the various activities we provide at The Gateway Centre.

Since the Christmas Appeal, as part of Life Projects, we have held a further two Life Course series, with a third starting shortly. The Life Course supports people like Lorraine, who are in recovery from addiction, trauma and poor mental health. We have seen demand for this course grow as local agencies hear of the positive results in people’s lives. Thanks to support like yours, Lorainne and many others like her, can tell their stories:
“Before finding the Genesis Trust I was in a dangerously low state of mental health lacking in confidence and self-worth, struggling with feelings of great loss, pain, much grief and I was suffering safety issues which made me mistrusting of people.
Sue Fourie’s guidance and teaching in The Life Course I have attended has been nothing short of ‘life saving’. She has a wonderfully calm, supportive and patient approach and has been a huge turning point in the start of my living well and by showing me coping mechanisms to aid my recovery.
Sue has made the sessions fun when the subjects can be both intense and very emotional when facing difficult issues of the mind and heart. I really can’t express in words how The Life Course has made me better cope as an individual with complex issues in my daily life and I hope it may continue to guide other people like me.”
Lorraine’s positive engagement with Genesis Life Projects goes even beyond herself, as she is to become one of the first volunteers to assist Sue on the next Life Course. Having been through both trauma and The Life Course herself, her input and support for new guests attending will be invaluable.

We are so excited to see how, incorporating volunteers like Lorraine on to The Life Course, will both enhance the course for new guests as well as continue to grow Lorraine’s confidence and wellbeing, all within the safety and care of the Genesis community.
