Join us for our Prayer Walk on Saturday, 12 June and take time to walk and talk, to reflect, wonder and pray in the beautiful countryside around Bath and the surrounding villages. We are aiming for a day to boost mind, body and soul. Not only is taking a walk a great way to exercise, it can be a time for freeing the mind, a space to think, sparking connections and creativity. A perfect time for reflection and prayer in companionship with other walkers.
Travelling on foot can be meditative, fostering a slow frame of mind. When we walk, we are aware of the details around us. As well as what we can see there is what we can hear. “I love to listen to the sound-scape around me as I walk,” says Hilary Long, “from the sounds of the natural world in the near ground and then those radiating out to the hubbub of the nearby streets and planes overhead. I find that it is a way to contemplate the world around me.”
The Genesis Trust Prayer Walk will enable us to move our attention away from our many activities and the busy-ness of life. We hope that it will be a natural space for both conversation and silence, prayer and reflection. As we go on the route from Bath city centre out to Kelston and back, the aim is to give thanks and bless different areas and sectors within Bath and the churches and communities we encounter along the way.
You can come for the full distance of ten miles or meet us along the way. Starting at Elim Church we will head along the river to St Nicholas’ Church, Kelston. Stopping there for prayer and a picnic lunch, we will return via All Saints’ Church, Weston and finish at Bath Abbey.
The morning’s walk is pretty flat along the river paths and the cycle path. The afternoon is more undulating and rural and people will need to be able to manage styles and uneven ground under foot. From All Saints’ Weston the walk follows the Cotswold Way in to the city.
9.30 – Elim Church, Charlotte Street, Bath
1pm – St Nicholas’ Church, Kelston
3pm – All Saints’ Church, Weston
4pm – finish at Bath Abbey
