Is there a mountain that you have always wanted to climb or a distance to run, walk, cycle that you would like to conquer? Do you have a bucket list with adrenaline filled adventures like skydiving or wing-walking on it? These Challenge Events are offered to test participants’ physical and mental endurance, to push personal boundaries, achieve a personal best or feel a fear and do it anyway! Whatever the chosen challenge or adventure, you embark on a journey where your every effort contributes to a greater cause.
These events and activities can be local, national and international. Organised by a charity, an adventure company or designed by the fundraiser themselves. At Genesis Trust our challenge events include the London Marathon and Bath Half Marathon, and we have places in these each year. We organise exciting skydives and the next one is coming up on 7 September. Many of our supporters have taken up the challenge to abseil from the towers of Bath Abbey and St Stephen’s Church, most recently, which are great events testing people in many ways especially confronting a fear of heights. Why do people do it? To prove to themselves and others that they can do it. We know that people feel an immense sense of achievement and satisfaction when they reach the ground even if they are still a bit shaky!
Everyone has a different reason for taking on a physical or adventure challenge for charity. This might be in celebration of a big birthday or in memory of someone. It might be a once in a lifetime opportunity or a chance just to try something different. Team challenge activities are great for corporate, church or school groups where a healthy bit of competition or working together under adversity works wonders for cohesion and building great memories together.
Whatever the reason or motivation everyone embarks on a journey that makes a difference. It’s where adventure and altruism go hand in hand. People who take on a personal challenge for Genesis Trust will in turn be helping other people to tackle their own life challenges. To be helping homeless and vulnerable people in our local community to find hope and a better future.
So, up for a challenge this year or next? All the Genesis Trust events are on our website.
Coming up soon on 1 September is the Bike Bath (Cotswolds). There will be a choice of routes 28, 55 and 78 miles long, starting at Westonbirt School. It caters for everyone from the experienced club rider to the first-time sportive rider. So why not get a group of friends together, or enter on your own, to experience the excitement and camaraderie of cycling an event with hundreds of other like-minded people. Alongside this event is Walk Westonbirt offering a choice of two routes, either 7 or 12 miles exploring the beautiful Cotswold countryside. Booking for both events is through Bike Bath (Cotswolds) 2024 – A day of cycling to remember – Bike Bath.
For national events such as the 3 Peak Challenge have a look at Dave Talbot – Adventure Events, Charity Abseils, Mountain Guiding.
For overseas adventures and challenges such as a London to Paris Cycle or The Inca Trail there are companies like Charities (discoveradventure.com) or Challenge Central.
Closer to home there is always The Cotswold Way which you can do as part of an organised event Cotswold Way Challenge – Ultra Challenge or on your own. We even have a virtual version of The Cotswold Way that you can do anywhere! Challenge Events Virtual – Genesis Trust Bath
Finally, you may have something different in mind that you would like to do or organise for others. If so, please get in touch and we can help to make it happen.
In the words of the Challenge Central website “We turn thrilling adventures into powerful acts of kindness. Our challenges are not just about the journey; they’re about making a meaningful difference. By participating in our events, you have the unique opportunity to raise funds for a cause you’re passionate about, making every step, pedal, or trek a contribution towards a better world.”
