Genesis Trust has been awarded the ‘Investors in Volunteers’ quality standard by the United Kingdom Volunteering Forum. We depend on the wonderful work of over 500 volunteers without whose valuable time and skills we wouldn’t be able to deliver the services we provide to our homeless and vulnerable clients. The award recognizes the way we work with our volunteers, from recruitment and training to support and skills development.
We know that people volunteer for many different reasons. For some, it’s a great way to remain occupied and connected after leaving many years of paid work. People who have experienced a mental or physical health crisis can find that returning to work is daunting, and volunteering helps to build confidence and bridge that gap. Many of our volunteers see Genesis as a way of putting compassion into action, and do so as an expression of their Christian faith.
Some of our volunteering opportunities are tailored towards people who want to gain more skills with a view to finding a paid job. At our Furniture Project, volunteers can receive training in retail and warehouse skills, as the project collects donated items and re-sells them.
So, whether cooking hot meals, helping with the Bath Foodbank, or enabling vulnerable people to express their creativity, the ways in which volunteers help Genesis Trust to operate are many and varied. We’d like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who gives of their time and energy to make Genesis Trust happen.
If you’d like to find out more, see the volunteering page of our website. There is scope to volunteer regularly or as a one-off for a specific project.
